How I Built an Event Management Platform for TC Group
TC
Group was managing their event registrations using Excel files. To
create badges, they had to send these files to a designer, who made each
badge one by one. It took a lot of time, and it was also difficult to
track which guests were allowed to enter different areas like
restaurants, workshops, or conference halls.
The solution:
I developed a full event management platform to make this work easier and faster. The system included:
A web application for attendee registration
Automatic badge generation with QR codes
A native Android application for scanning badges at event access points
A back-office dashboard for viewing event statistics
The biggest challenge:
The
most difficult part was not the code, but working with a special badge
printer. At first, I followed the size recommendations in the printer
manual, but the result was not good. The badges didn’t print correctly. I
had to test different settings many times until I found the right
format. After several tries, it finally worked. I still keep the first
correctly printed badge as a memory.
How it worked:
After
attendees registered on the web app, the system generated a badge for
each person, with a unique QR code. Staff at the event used the Android
app to scan the badges at different locations. The system checked online
if the person was authorized to enter. At the end of the event, the
client could log into the back-office and see statistics about
attendance and visits to different areas.
The result:
The
client was very happy, especially because the system saved a lot of
time in creating badges. They also liked seeing real-time event
statistics without using Excel or paper.
What I learned:
Simple
solutions can make a big difference. And sometimes, the small technical
problems ( like printing badge layouts ) teach you the most.
